Tony and Avril were wonderful hosts who treated us with a warm welcome after our long journey and somewhat stressful drive through Cork to find them. After getting us settled into our comfotable, clean room, they offered tips on dining, things to do and see, and directions. The 10-12 minute walk to the center was perfect. The breakfast was exceptional with so many choices. I would recommend this B & B and hope to return myself someday, as we didn't have enough time in Cork this trip.

A great experience in Cork. We wish we had more time to stay longer. Tony and Avril were great hosts and could not do enough for us. Being avid dog lovers, we also loved interacting with Chippy their charming little mate. The lodgings were clean, roomy and comfortable and the breakfast was superb.

This is a lovely and reasonably priced B&B convenient for Cork town centre and, in particular, the university. The food is stunning, particularly the poached eggs, and the proprietor couldn't be friendlier. Next time I have business in town, I'll be back!

Fernroyd House B&B is a hidden gem in Cork. We stayed here one night on September 3rd. It was a little hard to find driving into Cork because it's already hard to navigate around town but once we found it we realized it's in a great spot. It's on a road just off the main drag into town. So, you don't get all the car and foot traffic and really get a feel of living in that part of town. It is located next to University College Cork UCC and just a walk over the river to the main drag with plenty of shops and restaurants along the way. That road leads straight into the city center where there are even more choices of great pubs, shops, and the English Farmer's Market. The owners Tony and Avril are very welcoming and helpful giving you lots of information about getting around town. They had plenty of suggestions for us for dinner and were quick to call in for us. The main house if cute and very country, complete with two adorable dogs who welcome you and even sit for photos. We stayed in an annex house a few doors down and it was a little newer and very clean and modern. There is a nice activity room downstairs and a beautiful garden in the back complete with furnishings and BBQ. Breakfast was very good. All made to order from a traditional Irish to simple pancakes. All very good and fresh. One drawback might be its distance from the city center but it's just a short walk and really keeps away on a nice quiet road. The only regret would be not staying longer but we had a great time while we were there. Would definitely go back.

Tony and Avril were perfect hosts to my niece and I. On the first night of our visit we booked a twin room, but it only had a queen size bed - we needed twin beds. They moved in a cot in order to accommodate us and the next day while we were away they moved all our stuff to a new room with two beds. Also, on the following two days we had to leave early for day trips, so we would miss breakfast, so Avril made us both lunches to take with us on both days. We can not say enough about the care and concern they had for both me and my niece. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay with them.

No wonder this B&B is so highly regarded. We stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't have felt more welcomed. The rooms were wonderful a double and a single and breakfast was amazing. Tony and Avril were the perfect hosts, helping us with travel plans and contacting someone at UCC so my son could have a private tour. We can't say enough about what a great place Fernroyd House is.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fernroyd House. Tony and Avril were very welcoming and helped with directions and recommendations of places to eat in town. All which were a short walk away in town. We had a choice of a couple of rooms when we arrived. Both were spacious. We selected one in the main house. Tony welcomed us with tea and scones. Breakfast was wonderful. You could choose the traditional Irish breakfast, a selection of other breakfast entrees, or from a table with fruit, cereal, and breads. The scones were the best we had our entire trip. We spent the week trying to find ones as good but never did even in upscale hotels in the larger cities. I would definately pick Fernroyd House again if staying in Cork.

Avril welcomed us when we arrived with a hot drink and light snack. We are a family of 4 and were very comfortable with this accomodation. It was our first time to experience a bed and breakfast and Tony and Avril have set the bar very high. The rooms were clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The breakfast was great too. They were most helpful with their local knowledge as regards to where to eat and what to do. We wanted to go to Blarney Castle and they gave us a detailed map of how to get there. Would definitley recommend this accomodation. PS. The dogs were great and to watch Molly going up the stairs was so funny! :

Fernroyd House B&B had the better reception we had during our trip to UK and Ireland. People were amazingly kind and warm. Cork and Fernroyd House B&B will be our destiny in a future trip. It's good to take a look at the drain of the bathroom, which seems to be clogged.

I booked the Fernroyd House B&B for my family for their visit to Cork. I am currently an international student at UCC in Cork. It was just a short walk from my apartment as well as the college & city center. Tom & Avril were fantastic hosts! My family wished we had a place as wonderful as theirs to stay at each night of our week of traveling! Very clean & modern accommodations! Beautiful home. My Brother loved Avril's fresh out of the oven scones! Tom has a wealth of knowledge about Cork and the surrounding areas, he gave us some great tips for our upcoming travel throughout the rest of Ireland. Fantastic hosts & home! I would recommend them to everyone & I would stay again should I ever be back in Cork! :

We can't say enough wonderful things about Fernroyd House B&B. Guests are absolutely pampered! From the minute we arrived when Tony jumped into our car to park it safely up the street and then returned with all our bags to the minute we left when Tony ran up the street for our car and then stowed all our bags in the trunk, we were treated like royalty. No question went unanswered, no request was too much trouble. Tony and Avril Lyons work harder to please their guests than any innkeepers we've ever stayed with! The breakfasts were delicious--with choices ranging from healthy to sinful. The decor was understated elegance, and our bedroom was very quiet even though it was across the hall from the breakfast room. We never heard a word and almost missed breakfast by oversleeping. Obviously, the beds were very comfortable. The neighborhood is very peaceful even though it is only half a block from the University College Cork; Fernroyd House faces the River Lee and is located on a dead-end road so there is almost no traffic. A totally wonderful experience. Many thanks to the Lyons family!

Tony and Avril are the most wonderful hosts and they go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect: thanks for great recommendations on restaurants and local pubs with music. The freshly cooked breakfasts full Irish were wonderful, especially the scones and sausages the best during our 10-day trip in Ireland. Location on quiet street next to university and close to city centre approx. 10-15 min. walk along river is perfect. I can't say enough good things about this place.

Make this your #1 choice for a B&B in Cork. Avril and Tony are wonderful hosts, very friendly and super helpful. Our accommodations were in an annex down the street a few doors; it was modern and perfectly clean. There were a few bedrooms in the home but the ground floor was a lounge with a complete kitchen, and there was a lovely garden, just made for sitting in the sun. The location, a very short block from the the downtown area made exploring Cork town center very easy. I could not have asked for a better place to spend the night and if I return to Cork I will certainly book here.

I stayed at Fernroyd House, with a friend, for 3 days in September. From the moment we arrived, Avril and Tony worked 100% to ensure our visit was as perfect as possible. They were keen to know our plans and provided suggestions for restaurants and live music and even helped with transport to enable us to carry out a specific walk. They have tremendous energy and enthusiasm, yet manage to keep their input measured according to each visitor's needs. The breakfast selection is superb. I tried something different every day and loved it all. This a B&B which feels like a small boutique hotel. Even the wifi works!

We could not have been more pleased with our 3 night stay. Tony and Avril epitomize Irish hospitality. They just seem to thrive on providing more to you than you could expect..."Would you like to use my GPS today"..."Let me call the manufacturer of that sweater and see what shops they sell to"..."You don't need to worry about finding a Laudry, I can take care of that for you and have your clean and folded clothes in your room later this afternoon". More than we could have hoped for..... Of course we also had a lovely, clean room and wonderful breakfast every day. Thanks. A+

Avril and Tony welcomed us graciously with hot French-press coffee, delicious warm homemade scones and great information about local restaurants, pubs with traditional instrumental music, and public transportation to places we wanted to visit. They were absolutely lovely hosts! Their menu of a half dozen different hot breakfasts was excellent and everything, scrumptious. Our room upstairs provided space to lay out our bags and totes, a welcome convenience, and we liked the inn's location a short walk out of town across from the University. Tony recommended seeing the ancient stones with ancient inscriptions at the University and they were fascinating. We spent one day in Kinsale, a nearby coastal town, and it was perfect: the scenery, Charles Fort, Fishy-Fishy Restaurant and the walk through the town and dockside. In short, we loved our stay and definitely recommend Fernroyd House B&B.

What an amazing place to stay!! My wife and I only spent the one night but were contemplating extending our stay. The room was spacious, pristine and well equiped. Our hosts were gracious, accomodating and incredibly helpful. Breakfast in the morning was superb. The location was great, walking distance to city center, but located just outside so leaving in the morning avoided most of the traffic. Overall highly recommended, will definitely stay there again myself.

It was such a pleasure to stay at Fernroyd House. Avril and Tony are such wonderful hosts who go out of their way to ensure that you have a wonderful stay. They have great recommendations on where to go and where to eat. The breakfast is wonderful with Avril's home made scones, they are the best I have ever eaten. The room was brilliant, clean, comfortable and pleasant. It is in a great position too, a 10 minute walk to the city centre on a lovely quiet road. I will definitely be back.

Fenroyd House B&B was one of the best bed and breakfasts we stayed at our entire trip. We were welcomed warmly and Tony gave us great advice for the rest of our travels. The breakfast was amazing and the room in the annex house was perfect. We slept well and had a great view of the lovely garden in the back. Great location close walk to the downtown area and the college. We would highly recommend this b&b to anyone staying in Cork City and we hope to visit again someday!

We were never wanting for an answer and so appreciative of all the extra's that Averil and Tony went out of their way to provide. The rooms were lovely and the location so very convenient. We highly recommend the B&B, but most of all we recommend Averil and Tony as the best proprietors of a B&B in Ireland.

Avril & Tony are wonderful diplomats for Ireland! So warm, kind & generous. Our room, # 1 in the main house, was delightful - and great pressure in the shower! We slept soundly, no disturbances. We were greeted with tea & delicious scones, and Avril told us about Cork, a city we loved. Tony highly recommended an Italian restaurant, Il Padrino, and we weren't disappointed - excellent! It was a lovely 15 minute walk along the river to get there. The full breakfast in the morning was delicious ... with a huge selection to choose from. We truly hated to leave Fernroyd, and our new friends Avril & Tony. The best B & B in Ireland! Hope we meet again ... JoAnn & Jim

Very friendly place and situated neatly on the edge of the town. It was only about a very nice 10 minute walk to the city center. Nice neighborhood - very safe and peaceful. When our clock was set incorrectly, we accidentally overslept and felt terrible. The two owners were very patient and understanding to the situation and, although we missed breakfast, they made sure we didn't leave on an empty stomach by providing food and tea for us well after checkout. Thanks a million for tolerating what could have been a very uncomfortable situation. We would definitely recommend... with a

Nine of us stayed at the Fernroyd House and we were treated with great hospitality. It was an international crowd of family and friends, one person celebrated his birthday that night. Avril and Tony offered to get us champagne and treats, there was a garden for us to use as well. The beds were excellent, we all had our own rooms, the breakfast was delicious, choices for all. It was the perfect experience. When people speak of Irish hospitality this is what they are talking about.

We have just returned from Cork, where we stayed at the outstanding Fernroyd B&B. We arrived early and our hosts Avril and Tony made us very welcome. Even though our room was not available they offered us breakfast and took in our luggage. This enabled us to go out for the day knowing that our luggage was in safe hands. Our hosts were both incredibly helpful, nothing was to much trouble for them. They gave us some excellent advice, on what to do and where to go and also gave us suggestions on where to eat. Avril and Tony made every effort to make our stay in Cork very enjoyable and to make sure we had a good breakfast to start our day. My sons particularly enjoyed the home made scones!

Tony & Avril are the perfect hosts in their beautifully appointed B&B! We thoroughly enjoyed the chats at breakfast each morning and were very appreciative of Tony's suggestions for our daily excursions in and around Cork as well as across to nearby County Kerry. Such a pleasant stay! Avril and Tony were excellent hosts, made great recommendations for visiting and made us want to return. Tony took the time to give us a map to the city, and made notes on it about his recommendations, areas of the city, and landmarks. He was so helpful! Afterward, we were convinced to stay longer in Cork. He was so knowledgeable about the area, and advised us on where to venture outside the city as well. The breakfast alone was phenomenal! When we arrived, Tony helped me with our bags. You can tell they love owning a B&B. Apparently, returning guests were arriving just when we were. They were called out by name and invited to their "usual" room. It's easy to see why they come back to visit. With hospitality like Avril and Tony exhibit, you'd always come back. We can't wait to visit again soon.

Fantastic stay! A wonderful B&B located in Cork. Our room was just down the street from the main B&B and was wonderful. Bright and spacious room with access to a full kitchen downstairs and a peaceful garden in the back. Our hosts were beyond fantastic and so helpful - many thanks for the tip to travel up Healy Pass after leaving Cork! They gave us great tips for Cork - where to go, what to see, where to go to hear real Irish music, etc. And not far from Blarney Castle. The food in the morning was some of the best we had at any B&B. French toast, delicious porridge, full Irish breakfast, etc. Would love to stay here again! We felt like we knew Avril and Tony for years with the way they greeted us into their home!

The accommodations were terrific; ours were actually located a few doors down from the main Fernroyd House in a new home where we had a spacious upstairs room. The ground floor of the home provided access to a bright, large kitchen/dining/family room where there was flat screen TV for watching the Olympics.
